I am now a firm believer in the need for soccer players to have the ability to juggle a soccer ball. Do I believe that a soccer player needs to be able to juggle a ball 1,000 times without the ball hitting the ground? No, that just makes for some good You Tube or Facebook videos. I think a good goal should be around fifty for every player. Once you get to fifty, you have achieved good ball control.
When I coached my girls when they were little juggling to me was no more than a way to kill a little bit more time during practice. I wish I would have pushed all of the girls on my team to work harder at this skill. Ball control is so important as soccer players get older. If a soccer player has great ball control, the game will slow down for that player. By that I mean she will be confident in her ball skills to the point she will be able to gain the much needed extra seconds required to make a precise pass or move versus an okay pass or move.
Check out the new video on beginning juggling I added to the training videos. It is one of the best I have seen explaining the proper way to begin juggling.
Have a great day!
